Students in English Channel Crossing Charity Effort

Student Union co.uk is helping two students from the University of Hertfordshire in their brave attempt to cross the English Channel and raise money for The Stroke Association.

Each year over 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke. In fact a stroke is the third most common cause of death in the UK and it is also the single most common cause of severe disability. These shocking statistics have prompted two physiotherapy students studying at the University of Hertfordshire to take up a unique challenge to cross the English Channel in order to raise money for The Stroke Association.

Dave Saunders and Andy Read are aiming to complete the 19 nautical mile crossing on a tandem wave ski (similar to a surfboard but using paddles) which represents an immensely physical, testing and unique challenge. To make a significant difference to this cause, the aim is to raise between ?10,000-?20,000.

"Student Union were one of the first organisations to step forward and offer to help us," commented Andy Read. "We are very grateful for their support. Their expertise in online services has enabled us to spread the message about our Channel Crossing attempt and attract more sponsors. The funds raised will be invaluable for the future care of stroke patients".
